Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Introduction
It is located at level 1 next to Labour and delivery suit. It provides critical care for babies at birth and babies who are less than 1 month of age. Babies who are above 1 month of age may be admitted if their condition warrants care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Facilities and Services
It is a 14 bedded ward with :
- 4 intensive care
- 4 intermediate care
- 2 isolation room
- 4 recovery room bassinettes with rooming in facilities for mothers.
Cares provided
Intensive care 6 ventilators including 2 for isolation cases to provide care for very ill neonates requiring ventilation and intensive monitoring. Intermediate Care 4 incubators to provide care for remperating neonates post ventilation / intensive care. Special care 4 bassinettes accompanied by mother's beds to cater for nursing mothers. This area provides care for stable neonates requiring continued treatment / medications
